This thought came to me last night as my family shopped at Walmart. Our cashier – an elderly, feeble lady – seemed confused because the previous shopper left without their groceries and she didn’t know what to do with the items not purchased. She started loading cans and boxes of food in her weak, petite arms and chest.
Seeing her struggle, I offered to get a cart to lighten her load. She graciously accepted my offer.
Now this story isn’t about my act, it’s to prove a point – don’t watch someone stumbling and struggling. It’s our duty to step in to help them catch their balance, so to speak.
We talked last Thursday about doing one random act of kindness for others and the challenge still stands.
I will never be words of encouragement but actions to model words of encouragement.
Guess what?
When I went to pay for our groceries, the card (I mean, user) wasn’t working. There I was holding up the line, nervously sweating and embarrassed, while the person behind stared.
What should take 5 seconds took 3 minutes.
Here’s the best part, the couple behind me was patient, kind, and supportive even though I took 20 times longer to pay.
They didn’t have to respond in a supportive way but they made a choice to be kind and not make me feel like a fool.
What will you choose to be today?
Choose to love and show kindness.
